A Journey of Healing
At Wellness Insights, Dr. Katie founded our practice on four pillars of integrative care: rest, joyful movement, food as medicine, and nourishing the spirit. These pillars support a holistic view of health—one that honors the full human experience, not just physical symptoms.
As part of our commitment to sharing meaningful transformation, we recently interviewed three long-time patients who’ve worked with multiple providers on our team. Their stories are powerful reminders that healing happens when we address the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.
This month, we’re honored to share the first of these stories: Rhonda Young, whose nine-year journey with Wellness Insights exemplifies the life-changing power of collaborative care.
From Injury to Insight
Nine years ago, Rhonda visited the emergency room for an acute injury. In her search for relief, she found her way to Dr. Katie, who not only treated the injury but introduced Rhonda to the deeper healing potential of acupuncture and red light therapy.
Acupuncture activates the parasympathetic nervous system, the body’s “rest and restore” state. When engaged, this system promotes deep healing—reducing inflammation, regulating hormones, and encouraging cellular repair.
“It helped clear my head,” Rhonda shared.
“It felt like a cleansing for my whole being.”
These treatments became more than physical therapy—they became emotional sanctuaries, helping her reconnect to a sense of inner peace and well-being.
Expanding the Circle of Care
As her health journey continued, Rhonda expanded her support system by working with Dr. Kathleen “KC” Cannon, our naturopathic doctor. Together, they addressed persistent gastrointestinal issues using functional medicine and food-based healing strategies.
During one session, Dr. KC introduced Rhonda to Reiki, an energy healing modality that helps clear blockages and restore balance.
“I felt boundless energy,” Rhonda said.
“Everything flowed more easily.”
She also worked with Dr. Becky Nardi, DPT, to address piriformis syndrome—a common cause of sciatic pain. Becky’s hands-on physical therapy and targeted movement plan helped Rhonda regain strength, range of motion, and overall mobility. And allowed her to return to yoga, one of her favorite activities.
Caring for the Caregiver
Rhonda’s path hasn’t been without hardship. As the sole caregiver for her mother during a long cancer journey, she experienced intense physical, emotional, and spiritual stress. Recognizing Rhonda’s caregiver stress, Dr. Katie encouraged Rhonda to care for herself with as much compassion as she showed her mother.
During an especially difficult period, Dr. Katie recommended a restorative Kobido facial massage with Bozena, our licensed esthetician. It proved to be a small but transformative act of self-care.
“It was exactly what I needed,” Rhonda reflected. “That moment helped me reconnect to myself.”
That one session became a gateway to an ongoing self-care practice—one that continues to support Rhonda’s resilience and emotional health.
A Living Example of Holistic Healing
Rhonda’s story is more than inspiring—it’s a real-life example of what’s possible when we treat health as a multidimensional journey. Through her partnership with our collaborative team of integrative providers, Rhonda found a healing path grounded in trust, science, and care.
“This experience has changed how I move through the world,” she shared. “I feel whole again.”
